Racism and your rights with service providers
Racism is being treated unfairly because of your race, culture, background, or the language you speak. It can be an insult, being left out, or being refused a service. It is never okay, and it is against the law in Australia
Whenever you deal with a service — a hospital, school, housing provider, settlement service, or government office — you have the right to be treated fairly and with respect, to ask for an interpreter, and to get help in a way that makes sense to you
You can ask to speak with a manager, make a complaint, or contact Anti-Discrimination NSW for free advice. You can also call the Hunter Community Legal Centre for free local legal support. HMC can help you understand what happened and what to do next
